" The Don " in Lodge road in the days of inter-rivalry in the Darts & Dominoes Leagues.

Myself running the darts team,we played in many

challenge matchs,the biggest achivement was the

result was winning against the Reservior Tavern

with many Argus Players.to win the Birmingham

Cup.being elated with our win,returned to the

" Don " and handed to the Licensee,to display

for the locals.he threw it on a back shelf,

whithout any comment of well done lads,have drink on the house.I asked for

the Cup back and took

it away,saying that we would not be playing

here again.I took the cup home,to think of next

Match.Having played all local pubs we always

recivied a welcome at the George & Dragon.

I approach the Manager for using their Pub

for our home base,to which he was only to pleased for the extra

customers.we stayed there till the

Manager was replaced.the new Manager became a member of the Darts Team.

THE BELLFIELD 23/03/08

Congratulations on a well put together site. Writing from afar (Sydney, Australia) I was delighted to read stories of and see photos of the Bellfield Inn. To my surprise a couple of the photos published have images of my Great Great Grand Father Len Hyde and his wife May. My Great (x2) Grand Father was the publican at the Bellfield in the early 1900's till he died in 1932. His daughter May went on to live in South Africa where in her 80's she recites tales of the Bellfield and growing up in the 1920's. I would appreciate any feed back especially information that relates to the Bellfield Inn and its current state today. I have just been on your web site to check if an old photo I had was the Soho Foundry Tavern as you cannot see the name of the pub on the photo, I think it is. The photo has an ancester of mine on called William Hope (my grandmothers brother) about 1920, my dad thought it was the smart man in the black bowler hat but we are not sure. The tall man behind the bar is Harry Moore, the gaffer. The man in the trilby is my father, Harry Holmes. The bloke sitting (head and shoulders, bottom RH corner, playing dominoes) is my brother Don.

TRIP TO BLACKPOOL FROM the "RAILWAY INN" 1950/5 11/08/08



	I have been looking through some old photographs again; as one does from time to time, to recall those happy days of many, many years ago. And I came across some pictures taken in, I think, Blackpool probably between 1950/5. They are of friends and fellow drinkers from the Railway Tavern/Inn at the bottom of Wellington Street on one of the seaside trips organised by the publican or one of the drinkers.I send them on to you Ted, as someone may recall who they are, and might be pleased to see a photo of relatives enjoying themselves in typical 50's style... Here's a photo my Mom - Lilian Blackwell, has passed for me to send on to you, its from 1963, at least that's what's written of the back of the photo, and its from the Railway Tavern at the bottom of Wellington Street. We know its the Railway because you can just see the brick arch of one of the bridges through the window. On the photo is my Dad Tom Blackwell far left, the only other names my Mom can recall from the photo are George Evans and Sammy Davies? It's a good colour print too! There are two other photos- black & white, these are from April 1957! Mom thinks this was some sort of trip from Wellington St and Foundry Road?
