SUNDAY SCHOOL 16/05/08
I wonder if anyone remembers Sunday School at All Saints church in the 50s and 60s?
I attended as a child and remember Miss Lee. As I grew older I used to take a class of the smaller children. Does anyone remember the outings to Warwick park on the double decker corporation buses? If you remember that, you will also recall the jam and paste sandwiches and the weak squash!
Mr Morris was the vicar and I believe Mr Marsh was a lay peacher?
Also I recall Mr Morris taking the confirmation classes and we were then confirmed at St Martins in the Bull Ring. I remember the girls had to wear a fine white veil on our heads!
It was sad to see the church demolished. It played a large part in our lives at All Saints school. I was so shocked coming home late one evening, to see the interior of the building being burnt out. It was such a depressing sight and like losing an old friend. Mary Free (Evans) stevenfree@btinternet.com
In answer to Sue Hancox's query, All Saints Church was demolished in 1973. The gravestones have all been removed, but there is a book of inscriptions in Birmingham Reference Library and a copy can be bought on microfiche from the Birmingham & Midland Society for Genealogy & Heraldry (BMSGH).

Quote from a newpaper of the time:-
The church was demolished in 1973 when it was 140 years old. It's corner pinnacles had already been removed for safety. The article said that parts of the fabric of the church were deteriorating, and it was in an area where
most of the 19th century houses were being demolished. The congregation was dwindling, and there were insufficient funds to carry out the necessary repairs to the church. 29/05/03
